Breathe New Life Into Your Favourite Frames

Breathe New Life Into Your Favourite Frames: The Cheshire Reglaze Story

We’ve all been there. You find the perfect pair of glasses. Perhaps they’re designer frames or a comfortable vintage style. They fit your face beautifully and suit your personality. However, your prescription may eventually change, or the lenses might become scratched.

So, what’s the traditional solution? Often, people throw away their favourite frames and spend a small fortune on a new pair.

Fortunately, there’s a better option. Cheshire Reglaze is a British specialist glazing lab with over 30 years of family-run experience. By combining traditional expertise with modern optical manufacturing, the company offers a practical alternative to buying new glasses.

Three Decades of Family-Run Heritage

In a world dominated by large retail chains, personal service can be hard to find. However, Cheshire Reglaze offers a refreshing alternative.

As a family-owned business, it brings over 30 years of experience to the optical industry. As a result, its team understands the importance of quality, care, and attention to detail.

Every pair of glasses receives individual attention. Furthermore, decades of experience have helped the team work with a wide range of frames and prescriptions. They have also witnessed significant advances in lens technology over the years.

Consequently, this knowledge helps them identify suitable solutions for your existing eyewear.

State-of-the-Art Optical Manufacturing in the UK

Cheshire Reglaze operates from its specialist glazing lab at Chadkirk Business Park in Romiley, Cheshire. From this location, the company combines traditional craftsmanship with modern laboratory technology.

As a result, the team can focus on accurately cutting and fitting lenses to your existing frames. This helps ensure your replacement lenses are suited to both your frames and your prescription.

Whether you need single-vision lenses or complex varifocals, there are options to suit different prescriptions. In addition, you can explore specialist coatings and finishes. These include anti-glare treatments, blue-light filtering lenses, and sun tints.

What’s more, the UK-based laboratory provides a specialist service focused on quality and precision. This means you can explore replacement lens options without giving up your favourite frames.

Why Choose to Reglaze?

Replacing your lenses instead of your entire pair of glasses offers several benefits. For many people, it’s a convenient way to refresh their eyewear while keeping the frames they already love.

Keep What You Love

Found a frame that fits perfectly? Fortunately, you don’t need to give it up just because your prescription has changed.

Instead, keep your favourite style and enjoy the comfort you already know. This is particularly helpful if you’ve struggled to find another pair that fits as well.

Save Money

Reglazing can be more affordable than buying a completely new pair. In particular, this can be beneficial when you own premium or designer frames.

Rather than paying for frames again, you can focus on replacing the lenses. Therefore, reglazing may offer excellent value when your existing frames remain in good condition.

Make a More Sustainable Choice

Reusing your existing frames also helps reduce waste. Instead of discarding perfectly usable materials, you give them a longer life.

In turn, this can help reduce the need to replace your entire pair of glasses. It’s a simple way to make a more environmentally conscious choice while keeping a style you love.

Explore Custom Lens Options

A lens replacement is also an opportunity to upgrade your eyewear. For example, you could consider transition lenses that adapt to changing light conditions.

Alternatively, ultra-thin high-index lenses may suit certain prescriptions. Polarised sun lenses are another option, particularly if you spend time outdoors.

With these choices available, you can explore lens options that better match your prescription and everyday needs.

Experience the Cheshire Reglaze Difference

Updating your glasses doesn’t have to mean replacing everything. Instead, Cheshire Reglaze allows you to keep your favourite frames while exploring lenses suited to your needs.

With decades of industry experience, the company offers a specialist service centred on craftsmanship and customer care. As a result, you can refresh your eyewear without giving up the frames you already love.

Has your prescription changed? Perhaps your lenses are scratched or showing signs of wear. Either way, reglazing could be the ideal solution.

Ready to give your favourite frames a second life?

Then visit the Cheshire Reglaze website to explore your options. Alternatively, get in touch with the team to find the right lenses for your lifestyle.

First, take some time to familiarise yourself with our range of lens types, thicknesses, finishes, and coatings. By understanding the available options, you can make an informed decision and choose the lenses that best suit your vision needs and lifestyle.

2. Select Your Frame Type

Next, find the image that best matches the frame you would like to have reglazed. We offer three main frame styles, so simply select the option that matches your glasses:

Full-rim frames
Semi-rimless frames
Rimless frames

3. Choose Your Lens Type

Once you have selected your frame type, choose the lenses you require. Depending on your prescription and vision needs, you can select from the following options:

Single Vision
Bifocal
Varifocal

4. Enter Your Prescription Details

After choosing your lens type, proceed to the prescription section.

Single Vision or Bifocal: Simply click Add Prescription to continue with your order.
Varifocal: You will be presented with three lens options: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Compare the available options and choose the one that best meets your requirements. For further guidance, please refer to our Lens Info section.

Select Your Prescription Requirements

Next, select the specific lens option that matches your vision needs:

Single Vision: Choose Distance, Intermediate, or Reading lenses, depending on your requirements.
Bifocal or Varifocal: Select the appropriate option based on your prescription and vision needs.

5. Choose Your Lens Thickness

Once you have selected your prescription requirements, you can choose the most suitable lens thickness. We offer four options to accommodate different prescriptions and preferences:

Standard: 1.5
Thin: 1.6
Thinner: 1.67
Thinnest: 1.74

Generally, higher-index lenses can be made thinner for the same prescription. However, the most suitable option will depend on your prescription and frame.

6. Select Your Lens Finish

After choosing your lens thickness, select the finish that best suits your lifestyle. We offer the following options:

Clear: Ideal for everyday vision without a tint.
Tinted: Adds colour to your lenses. For more details, please refer to our FAQs.
Photochromic: These lenses adjust to changing light conditions, becoming darker or lighter as needed.
Polarised: These lenses reduce glare from reflective surfaces, making them particularly useful for outdoor activities.

Consider how and where you use your glasses most often before making your final selection.

7. Choose Your Lens Coating

In addition to selecting your lens finish, you can choose a coating to suit your requirements. The available options are:

Hard Coat
HMC
HMC+
HMCB

Each coating offers different features and benefits. Therefore, we recommend visiting our Lens Info section before making your choice, so you can select the most appropriate option for your needs.

8. Upload a Photo of Yourself Wearing Your Glasses

Next, upload a photo of yourself wearing your current glasses. This allows our team to assess the condition of your frames and identify any measurements that may be required.

For example, the photo can help us assess pupillary distance (PD) and bifocal or varifocal fitting heights. As a result, we can better understand your existing glasses before proceeding with your reglazing order.

9. Upload Your Prescription

Once you have provided your photo, upload a copy of your current prescription. This is an important step because it helps us ensure that your new lenses correspond to your vision requirements.

Please make sure your prescription is clear and legible before submitting it.

10. Add to Basket and Complete Payment

After selecting your lens options and uploading the required information, review your order carefully. Once you are happy with your selections, add the items to your basket and proceed to checkout to complete your payment.

11. Post Your Glasses to Us

After completing your online order, carefully package your glasses and post them to Cheshire Reglaze. Remember to include a copy of your receipt so that we can identify your order when your glasses arrive.

12. Stay Updated on Your Order

Once we receive your glasses, our team will begin the necessary work. Meanwhile, we will keep you informed about the progress of the manufacturing process, so you know what to expect.

Receive Your Completion Confirmation and Tracking Details

Finally, once your new lenses are ready, we will send you a completion confirmation along with tracking details for your delivery. You can then follow your parcel’s progress until your glasses arrive.

13. Enjoy Your Reglazed Glasses!

Once your glasses have been delivered, you can enjoy your new lenses in your existing frames. We aim to make the reglazing process as straightforward as possible, from selecting your lenses to receiving your finished glasses.

Integrated Double Surface Design: Utilises a sophisticated dual-surface approach to deliver smooth power transitions and exceptional clarity at every focal point.
AdaptEase Technology: Features an exceptionally wide visual field and an optimized intermediate zone, making it ideal for prolonged screen time and digital device use.
Binocular Harmonization Technology: Ensures effortless focus and consistent stability across varying viewing distances.

Ultimate Binocular Harmony: Eliminates distortion entirely, providing maximum spatial stability and effortless, instant focus shifts.

Advanced Optical Technologies That Make a Difference

Transitioning to varifocals used to come with a steep learning curve, often described as a “swimming” sensation in the peripheral vision. Modern digital lens manufacturing from Hoya has completely transformed this experience.

By utilizing freeform lens calculation and dual-surface integration, Cheshire Reglaze lenses tailor the prescription precisely to your eyes. This results in significantly wider intermediate and reading corridors, meaning less head-turning and more natural, comfortable viewing—whether you are driving, working on a laptop, or reading a book.

Upgrade Your Vision Today

Your favourite frames deserve professional care. If your vision has evolved but your style hasn’t, reglazing your frames with Cheshire Reglaze’s premium UK-sourced Hoya varifocals gives you the best of both worlds: uncompromised optical clarity and the comfort of frames you already trust.

Reglazing Prescription Oakley Glasses with Cheshire Reglaze

Oakley glasses are engineered for performance, durability, and precision. Popular with athletes, outdoor workers and active lifestyles, Oakley frames are designed to handle demanding conditions. When your prescription changes or your lenses become scratched, replacing the entire frame isn’t always necessary.

That’s where Cheshire Reglaze offers a smarter alternative.

What Is Reglazing?

Reglazing is the process of replacing your lenses while keeping your original frames. Instead of buying brand-new prescription Oakley glasses, Cheshire Reglaze fits new prescription lenses into the Oakley frames you already own—preserving the fit, comfort and design you trust.

Specialist Glazing for Oakley Frames

Oakley frames often feature high-wrap designs and complex lens grooves that standard glazing equipment can struggle with. To handle these frames correctly, precision and specialist tooling are essential.

Specialist glazing equipment with a step-bevel function accurately edges and seats lenses into high-wrap and complex frames, improving fit, stability and overall finish.

This ensures the lenses sit securely within the frame, reducing movement, improving durability and maintaining optical accuracy—especially important for sports and performance eyewear.

Why Choose Cheshire Reglaze?

Cheshire Reglaze specialises in reglazing premium and performance frames. Every pair is processed in the UK with a focus on quality, accuracy and longevity.

Key benefits include:

Precision-cut prescription lenses
Secure fit for high-wrap Oakley frames

A Smarter Way to Upgrade Your Oakleys

Premium frames deserve professional care. By reglazing your Oakley glasses with Cheshire Reglaze, you’re investing in clearer vision, a secure fit, and a future-focused approach to eyewear.

If your Oakley frames still feel right but your lenses don’t, reglazing is the simple upgrade that keeps them performing at their best.

See Every Mile Clearly: Cheshire Reglaze Partners with Fat Skeleton Eyewear

Cheshire Reglaze Collaborates with Fat Skeleton to Bring Prescription Vision to Motorcycle Riders

At Cheshire Reglaze, we’re always looking for ways to help people get the most from their eyewear. That’s why we’re excited to be working alongside Fat Skeleton UK, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of motorcycle rider sunglasses, goggles and specialist biker eyewear.

For many riders, finding eyewear that offers both protection and clear prescription vision can be a challenge. Motorcycle sunglasses need to be durable, comfortable under a helmet, resistant to wind and debris, and capable of handling changing light conditions. Fat Skeleton has built a strong reputation within the motorcycle community by offering rider-focused eyewear designed specifically for life on the road. Their range includes foam-padded riding glasses, photochromic lenses, prescription-ready rider kits and shatterproof lens options.

Combining Specialist Rider Eyewear with Professional Reglazing

The collaboration between Cheshire Reglaze and Fat Skeleton allows riders to enjoy high-quality motorcycle eyewear while benefiting from professionally fitted prescription lenses tailored to their individual requirements.

Many Fat Skeleton models are designed with prescription solutions in mind, including their popular Sturgis prescription rider eyewear systems and prescription insert options. By combining these frames with Cheshire Reglaze’s reglazing expertise, riders can achieve clear vision without compromising on comfort, safety or style.

Whether you require:

Single vision lenses
Bifocal lenses
Varifocal lenses
Photochromic lenses
Prescription sunglasses

our team can help ensure your rider eyewear performs exactly as it should both on and off the bike.

Why Prescription Motorcycle Eyewear Matters

Clear vision is one of the most important safety factors when riding. Riders constantly need to monitor road conditions, mirrors, instruments and surrounding traffic. Standard fashion sunglasses often fail to provide the protection and fit required for motorcycle use.

Fat Skeleton’s rider eyewear features impact-resistant polycarbonate lenses and specialist designs intended to protect riders from wind, insects, dust and road debris. Many models also utilise photochromic technology that adapts to changing light conditions throughout the day.

By adding professionally glazed prescription lenses, riders no longer have to choose between visual clarity and eye protection.

Built for Riders Who Demand More

Motorcyclists often face unique challenges that traditional eyewear wasn’t designed to handle. Long-distance touring, changing weather conditions, bright sunlight and night riding all place different demands on eyewear.

Fat Skeleton’s range includes:

Foam-padded rider sunglasses
Prescription-ready motorcycle eyewear
Yellow-to-dark reactive lenses
Clear-to-dark photochromic options
Bifocal rider glasses
Motorcycle goggles and touring eyewear

all developed with real-world riding conditions in mind. ()

Supporting the Motorcycle Community

This collaboration represents a shared commitment to providing practical eyewear solutions for riders across the UK. By combining Fat Skeleton’s purpose-built motorcycle eyewear with Cheshire Reglaze’s prescription lens expertise, riders can enjoy a solution that delivers comfort, protection and crystal-clear vision.

If you’ve purchased a pair of Fat Skeleton rider glasses and need prescription lenses fitted, Cheshire Reglaze can help bring your eyewear to life with lenses tailored to your exact prescription.

Our new sunglass reglazing service offers a smarter, more cost-effective way to bring your favourite frames back to life — without replacing them.

What Is Sunglass Reglazing?

Occupational Varifocals Glasses

admin 0 Comments 23 October 2026

What Are Occupational Varifocals?

Occupational varifocals (sometimes called “office lenses” or “computer varifocals”) are specially designed lenses tailored for indoor tasks and working environments. Unlike standard varifocals that cover distance, intermediate, and near vision, occupational lenses focus primarily on intermediate (screen distance) and near vision (reading, desk work).

How Are They Different from Standard Varifocals?

Standard varifocals are built for all-day, all-distance use—from driving to reading. Occupational varifocals, on the other hand, are optimized for a specific range of distances, making them far more comfortable for focused tasks.

Key differences:

Wider intermediate zone → better for computer screens
Larger reading area → easier document viewing
Reduced neck strain → no need to tilt your head to find focus
Limited distance vision → not suitable for driving

Who Should Use Occupational Varifocals?

These lenses are perfect for:

Office workers and remote professionals
Anyone using screens for 4+ hours a day
Tradespeople working at bench distance
People experiencing neck or eye strain with standard varifocals
Over-40s dealing with Presbyopia

If you’ve ever found yourself constantly adjusting your posture just to see your screen clearly, occupational varifocals can be a game-changer.

Key Benefits

1. Enhanced Comfort

With a lens designed around your workspace, your eyes don’t need to constantly refocus—reducing fatigue throughout the day.

2. Improved Posture

No more tilting your head back to find the “sweet spot” in your lenses. This helps prevent neck and shoulder pain.

3. Increased Productivity

Clear vision across your desk setup means less time adjusting and more time working efficiently.

4. Customisable Viewing Zones

Different occupational lenses can be tailored depending on how far your screen is from your eyes.

Types of Occupational Varifocals

There are typically three main types, depending on your working distance:

Near Focus (0.4m – 1m): Ideal for reading and close-up tasks
Mid Range (up to 2m): Perfect for desk setups and dual monitors
Extended Range (up to 4m): Suitable for offices where you need to see across the room

Your optician will recommend the best type based on your daily routine.

Are There Any Downsides?

While highly effective, occupational varifocals do have limitations:

Not suitable for driving or long-distance viewing
May require a second pair of glasses for everyday use
Initial adjustment period (usually a few days)

However, for work-specific use, the benefits far outweigh these minor drawbacks.

Are Occupational Varifocals Worth It?

If your day revolves around screens, paperwork, or detailed close-up work, occupational varifocals are not just a luxury—they’re a practical upgrade.

They reduce strain, improve posture, and make your working environment far more comfortable. For many users, once they switch, they don’t go back.

Final Thoughts

In today’s screen-heavy world, your glasses should adapt to your lifestyle—not the other way around. Occupational varifocals provide a tailored solution that supports how you actually work, helping you stay comfortable, focused, and productive throughout the day.
